Steampunk/ Sensory Deprivation Helmet
Cinema 4D 10.5 + Photoshop CS2
22/08/2008
Steampunk “Sensory Deprivation” helmet.
Sensory deprivation is the deliberate reduction or removal of stimuli from one or more of the senses. Simple devices such as blindfolds or hoods and earmuffs can cut off sight and hearing respectively, while more complex devices can also cut off the sense of smell, touch, taste, thermoception (heat-sense), and 'gravity'. Sensory deprivation has been used in various alternative medicines and in psychological experiments (e.g., see Isolation tank).
Though short periods of sensory deprivation can be relaxing, extended deprivation can result in extreme anxiety, hallucinations, bizarre thoughts, depression, and antisocial behaviour.
THE PROJECT
The project initially started out as a little modelling in Cinema 4D then kind of escalated into the following piece – nothing was planned, I just seemed to end up with this? Don’t ask me why, when or where, I guess it was in my sub-conscious? To be honest, I would have liked the mask to be more fitted to the human form – unfortunately I don’t profess to be a modeller, I play around with the software and learn as I go along, once I get to a stage where something looks OK, I just expand from that. Basically this was also an exercise with the use of shaders in Cinema 4D, trying to age materials.
Modelled, textured and rendered in Cinema 4D, additional dirt, stains etc. added later in Photoshop.
Before anyone contacts me over the Specification details and Contract No. It is purely fictitious, although some elements were taken from a legitimate reference source.
