91st Bomb Group – “Ragged Irregulars”
Some recent work I’ve been doing for the Tower Museum over at Bassingbourn, WWII home of the USAAF 91st Bomb Group. Hopefully a selection of this work will be made available to visitors at the shop in the tower itself – the proceeds helping towards the continued success and maintenance of the museum which is currently run by Chris Murphy and his dedicated team of volunteers. Since the MOD no longer maintains the running of the museum itself, this now being leased from the MOD - the majority of funds that are raised, help towards the maintenance and daily running of the museum – additionally this also serves to give both past, present and future generations a small glimpse of our social history from the turbulent years of WWII.

The men of the 91st Bomb Group were affectionately termed “ Ragged Irregulars” because of the losses and number times the group had been shot up and couldn’t managed to pull together a full group in combat. The majority of the time they had to fill in on other units to make a full group bombing formation – hence the nickname which was coined by the group commander.
